Coffee and conversation

The Appalachian Enterprise Center is hosting Wednesday morning drop-ins for individuals interested in learning about the center and opportunities for emerging and early-stage businesses.

The drop-in runs from 7:45-9 a.m. every Wednesday and includes free coffee and snacks. Brief tours of the facility also will be offered.

The Appalachian Enterprise Center (AEC) is a partnership with Watauga County, the Committee of 100 and Appalachian State University. The collaboration provides a network of support services for early-stage and growing businesses, including office space, access to office equipment, conference rooms, mentoring and business counseling services, and communications access.

Take a sculpture walk

Brassing Out, a steel, wood and brass sculpture by Shawn Skabelund, is part of the Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. The sculpture is located near Broyhill Music Building.

The annual sculpture walk and announcement of the winner of the 22nd Annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition takes place Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at t Catherine J. Smith Gallery, located in the lobby of Farthing Auditorium. A reception will follow. For more information, visit www.rosensculpture.org.

Terry Cole

Terry Cole (com) has been elected to the Pi Kappa Delta (PKD) National Honor Society Hall of Fame, Class of 2009. As one of just two honorees selected this year, Cole was recognized for his contributions to PKD. The Hall of Fame honors PKD members for lifetime contributions to national, province, chapter or organizational forensics.

Pi Kappa Delta consists of educators, students and alumni committed to encouraging the education of articulate citizens through a three-part focus: the commitment to and promotion of ethical, humane and inclusive communication and educational practices; the commitment to and promotion of professional development of forensics educators; and the commitment to and promotion of comprehensive forensics programming.
